The first time I remember seeing miniature scenes in this style was watching Shining Time Station on T.V. as a child in the ’90s. I would look past Thomas the Tank Engine as he sped through the frame to the miniature rolling hills, trees and fields that comprised his world. The same techniques developed by model train hobbyists
